After the Apostolic Age, lawlessness began to seep into the church and divided it into two—the Eastern Church and the Western Church. The Eastern Church continued to keep the Sabbath and the Passover. However, the Western Church deviated from Christ’s teachings. It began to keep Sunday service and accepted sun worship from the Roman religion.

Roman Emperor Constantine abolished the Sabbath day by issuing the decree of 321, which made Sunday a holiday. He called it the “venerable day of the Sun,” making Sunday the official day of rest. All of Rome worshiped the sun god on Sundays, and eventually so did Christians.

Additionally, the Eastern and Western churches couldn’t agree on whether to keep the Passover at the appointed time or at a time of their choosing. Roman Emperor Constantine brought the issue to the Council of Nicaea, where the appointed time for the Passover was changed to the same day as the Day of Resurrection. Then the Day of Resurrection was renamed Easter.

After the abolishment of the Sabbath day and the Passover, the church became more and more secularized, making it more difficult, and eventually impossible, for Christians of the Early Church to keep the truth. Churches instituted man-made traditions instead of keeping God’s teachings. And for more than a thousand years no one kept the New Covenant of Christ.
