 The “Us” in Genesis

Q: Does the “Us” in Genesis refer to the Trinity?

A: The Holy Trinity means God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are not different but one and the same God (Isa 9:6). Keeping this in mind, let’s examine the verse in question.

“Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness ...’”

When God created mankind, God spoke in plural. Therefore, it cannot be the Trinity, since the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one. In addition, if the “us” in Genesis refers to the Trinity, then only a male image should appear. Let’s continue in following verse:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

If God’s image here referred to the Triune God, three types of people would appear on earth in male form. However, only two images were created: male and female.

The mystery of God has been hidden in plain sight since the creation. The male image of God is Father (Mt 6:9). and the female image of God is Mother (Gal 4:26).
